FAQ's
What is a doula and what role do you play in the birthing process?
A Doula is a trained, non-medical, professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother before, during, and shortly after childbirth. My primary role is to help mothers feel empowered and supported through her birthing experience, advocating for her preferences, and ensuring she has the information she needs to make informed decisions.
How does a Christian doula differ from a traditional doula?
As a Christian doula, I incorporate faith-based principles and values into my practice. I provide emotional and spiritual support that aligns with Christian teachings, offering prayers, scripture, and encouragement throughout the birthing process.
Can you work in any type of birth setting?
Yes, I can support births in various settings, including hospitals, birthing centers, and home births! I was trained to adapt to different environments and can help facilitate a positive birth experience, regardless of the chosen location.
Do I need to have a Christian background to hire you?
No, you do not need a Christian background to hire any Christian doula! While I may incorporate Christian elements into my support, I respect and honor each family's unique beliefs and preferences, providing compassionate care tailored to your needs.
What should I expect during the initial consultation?
During the initial consultation, you can expect to discuss your birth preferences, any concerns you may have, and how I can support you best. This is not only the best opportunity to start getting all the information you want but it is also the best time to ensure that you and I feel comfortable working together.
How much will it cost, and do you take insurance?
The cost varies based upon the package you choose, and as of now I am unable to accept insurance, which is why I strived to make my services as affordable as possible. My cheapest package is $300 and my most expensive is $800.
How can you help my partner during the birth?
I can support your partner by providing guidance and tools to help assist you during labor, helping to manage pain, and facilitating communication with hospital staff. (I also offer an online class for birthing partners to help them prepare for supporting you during labor.) By allowing me, or the doula of your choosing, to take on some support responsibilities, your partner can focus on being present and supportive during the birth experience.
Is it too late to hire a doula if I'm already in my third trimester?
It is never too late to hire a doula! Even if you are in your third trimester. Many doulas are happy to take on new clients later in pregnancy. If you feel that additional support would benefit you, reach out! If I have the availability I would love to be your doula, and if I am unable I have a list of other potential doulas that you can check out!
